Proven Joint and Back Pain Expertise Most Americans know the agony of back pain – an estimated 80 percent will suffer from it at some point in their lives. And who doesn’t know someone who struggles with achy hips, knees or shoulders?
Such joint and back pain can seem unbearable. But relief is possible through Methodist Rehabilitation Center’s comprehensive pain management services.
What Sets Us Apart?
We understand that pain management is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
Many times, a combination of therapies works best. That’s why our Flowood campus is home to a variety of pain specialists. By locating several clinics under one roof, we provide easy access to treatments that address each patient’s special needs.

Our Program

Methodist Spine & Joint Center
Led by board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians Leon Grigoryev and Carmella Osborne, Methodist Spine & Joint Center emphasizes non-surgical solutions to painful and disabling conditions.
Dr. Grigoryev and Dr. Osborne use a variety of diagnostic tools to uncover the causes of a patient’s pain, including a thorough history and physical, blood work and imaging studies such as X-rays, MRIs and bone scans.
“I pay attention to all the different aspects of pain – the physical, the psychological and the social,” Dr. Grigoryev says. “It’s important to figure out which factor is the prominent one.”
"You have to listen to your patients," Dr. Osborne says. "If you do, they will tell you what is wrong better than any diagnostic test."
Methodist Pain Management
Led by board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management specialist Bruce Hirshman, Methodist Pain Management is a trusted source for interventional pain techniques, such as steroid injections and nerve blocks.
Dr. Hirshman is also board certified in osteopathic manipulation and often uses hands-on techniques to ease the agonizing back and neck problems that afflict many chronic pain sufferers.
“Chronic pain often affects a patient’s ability to earn a living, to relate to his or her family, and it’s often complicated by issues of depression, helplessness and hopelessness,” he says. “It is our job as pain management specialists to support the patient physically, emotionally and spiritually while improving pain symptoms.”
Methodist Outpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation
The experienced physical and occupational therapists at Methodist Outpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation use techniques such as manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization and myofascial release to correct postural disorders and address soft tissue restrictions and pain. Patient education and therapeutic exercise also is emphasized.
“In the therapy gym, patients actively participate in their recovery,” says Joe Jacobson, director of outpatient services at Methodist Rehab. “They learn strategies to maintain their health and prevent further injury.”
