JACKSON, Miss.—Choirs and musicians will help Methodist Rehabilitation Center welcome in the holidays with seasonal music in the coming weeks.
The lunchtime performances will be in the Jackson hospital’s two-story atrium mall and are free and open to the public.
“The performances have become an annual tradition,” said Mark Adams, president and CEO of Methodist Rehab. “These groups donate their time and talent to perform for our patients, staff and visitors. The songs they sing and the music they play mean so much to all of us.”
The 22-member Jackson Prep Choir will kick off the celebration Wednesday, December 4 at 12:30 p.m. They will perform a Victorian Christmas evening, complete with dialogue and period costumes. Juanaree Solop, choral director for the school, said it’s a performance the kids look forward to each year. “They just enjoy singing and performing these pieces. It’s different from a lot of Christmas programs and that’s what people really seem to like about it.”
Other choirs scheduled to perform are;
The Clefs, a vocal jazz group from Hinds Community College in Raymond, will perform Thursday, Dec. 5 at noon on the second floor of the mall.
The 72-student First Presbyterian Sixth Grade Choir will perform Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 12:30 p.m.
The 18-student Madison Central Madrigal Singers will perform Monday, Dec. 16 at 12:30 p.m.
About 50 members of the First Baptist Church of Jackson Choir will perform Thursday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m.
There are still dates available if other choirs or musical groups would like to perform, said Lisa Uzzle Gates, special events manager at Methodist Rehab.
“The atrium provides such a beautiful setting, especially around the fountain downstairs. It’s a nice way to spend your lunch hour during the holiday season,” Gates said.
